Outside The Box, LLC was founded in 2005 by Candice Somerville, DBIA, LEED AP BD+C. Ms. Somerville brings over 20 years of broad-based experience in project planning, execution, and management. She has managed over $1B in construction, design/build, and environmental projects for the Federal government, including historical rehabilitation, new construction, renovation, infrastructure, and major civil works projects. Ms. Somerville has performed work for the National Park Service, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Air Force Center for Environmental Excellence (AFCEE), Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC), General Services Administration, National Institutes of Health, Architect of the Capital, and various municipal and commercial clients.

Kirk Hobbs
VP

Kirk Hobbs joined Outside The Box, LLC in October 2020. Kirk provides a vast array of knowledge gained in over 36 years of experience in managing various types of construction projects including those with design/build & fast track requirements. Kirk graduated from Northeast Louisiana University with a degree in Construction. He brings hands-on leadership to ensure customer satisfaction and quality control over all facets of multiple projects. He maintains excellence in safeguarding the employees of Outside The Box while complying with all expectations set by the customer. His working relationship with owners, architects, engineers and subcontractors provides continuity with Outside The Box. Kirk is LEED accredited.

Stephanie Bryan
CFO

Stephanie is a graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University with a degree in Accounting. She began her career in the public accounting arena and obtained her Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation. Stephanie spent 10 years in public accounting with a focus on tax services, working with business and individual clients. Stephanie then transitioned to the private sector, working in Chief Financial Officer and Practice Administrator roles in the healthcare sector for the next 8 years. Today Stephanie is enjoying her role as Chief Financial Officer of Outside The Box, utilizing her diverse background and skills and continuing her professional growth in the construction industry.

Dr. Bruce G. Harvey, PhD
Historian

Bruce G. Harvey is a historian, architectural historian, and documentation photographer, located in Syracuse, NY. He holds a Ph.D. in History from Vanderbilt University, Nashville, TN (1998), an M.A. in Applied History from the University of South Carolina, Columbia (1988), and a B.A. in History from Allegheny College, Meadville, PA (1985). He has over thirty years of experience as a public historian, and as a specialist in cultural resource management for nearly twenty-five years. He has participated in and directed hundreds of cultural resources and historic preservation projects since 1995, including historic architectural surveys throughout South Carolina and the southeast, successful NRHP nominations in multiple northeastern and Middle Atlantic states, and historical, architectural, and engineering evaluations of hydroelectric plants and historic canals throughout the nation. As a photographer, using both large-format black and white film and digital platforms, he has documented dozens of historic buildings and structures throughout the east coast for HABS/HAER and other documentation purposes, and has exhibited his photographs in multiple venues in New York State. From 1995 to 2003 he served as the Senior Historian and Architectural Historian with Brockington and Associates in Mount Pleasant, SC, and from 2003 to 2009 as the Senior Cultural Resources Specialist with Kleinschmidt Associates in Syracuse, NY. He began working as an independent cultural resources consultant in 2009 under the business name of Harvey Research and Consulting, specializing in HABS/HAER documentation, Section 106 consultation, and National Register of Historic Places nominations. Since 2014 he has also served as the Senior Historian with Outside the Box LLC, where his work has included the completion of three book-length administrative histories of National Park Service units.

Deborah E. Harvey
Preservation Planner

Deborah E. Harvey is a preservation planner, historic preservation and oral history specialist, and architectural historian located in southwestern Missouri. She also serves as program or project manager and as quality control manager for projects for Outside The Box. With a Masters in Heritage Preservation from Georgia State University in Atlanta, GA and a B.A. in History, also from Georgia State, Ms. Harvey has over twenty years of experience in the field of preservation, rehabilitation, and adaptive use of historic buildings and sites and as the client’s representative and project manager for construction at historic sites. Much of this experience has been work performed under contract with the National Park Service (NPS), but she has also worked for small businesses and local governments. She has produced dozens of the reports required by NPS for their historic properties, including nominations to the National Register of Historic Places, Historic Structure Reports, Historic Structure Condition Assessments, Historic Resource Surveys, HABS documentation, and oral history packages. In addition, she has over forty years of experience in the field of historical research and over thirty years of experience in managing others in various capacities. Ms. Harvey is conversant with, and supports, the requirements of the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties.

Chris Hayward
Senior Project Manager

Chris is a graduate of Croydon School of Building, London U.K. with a Degree in Construction Management. Chris is responsible for complete project management and construction oversite. His responsibilities include job pricing and bidding, negotiating contracts, and controlling budgets by communicating day to day with the project team to ensure that the job remains in budget and on schedule. Chris has a great working relationship with owners, subcontractors and management which results in successful construction experiences and job completions. He has a broad background and over 40 years’ experience in construction and construction management which includes design-build, high rise facilities, hangars, mission-critical facilities, and multi-home housing, and National Parks. Over his career, Chris has managed single and multiple projects ranging in size from $2M to $50M and is currently serving as Sr. Project Manager with Outside The Box, LLC.

Terry Fitzpatrick
Project Manager / Fort Liberty Program Manager

Terry has over 17 years of hands-on construction experience. Mr. Fitzpatrick has worked in almost every capacity of the construction industry, and has worked his way up from a carpenter to Foreman to Site Superintendent, Project Coordinator assisting in estimating and buyout, and Project/Program Manager. He is currently in the position of a Project Manager and Fort Bragg MATOC Program Manager where he is the key overseer of field activities, budgetary assurances, and in regular direct personal communication with the owners of his multiple projects. Mr. Fitzpatrick is experienced in daily management of construction activities and is instrumental in assuring that each project meets quality, schedule, and budgetary goals. His strengths include his ability to work in many different capacities and views teamwork as the key to success. Terry takes great pride in supporting our Federal programs, and takes the approach of being “Mission Minded” in all of our opportunities.
